Main findings
2050 projections of power and industrial high temperature heating sectors:
- Projected no-action emissions based on current energy mix: 2,246.8 MtCO2e /year+
- Maximum mitigation potential: 2,246.8 MtCO2e /year
- Most important needle-mover is onshore wind.
- Average cost of achieving zero emissions with only domestic measures is USD 33.28/tCO2e.
- In international collaboration, onshore wind in the USA remains a key technology for mitigation, as well as open field PV. Green electricity trade between Brazil and the USA is the most important two-country link of the collaborations modelled here to achieve zero emissions in the power and high temperature heating sectors at 8% lower cost than in autarky for both countries.
+Emissions are the annualized value for a 30-year project starting in 2050 (i.e., divided by 30 from the total project emissions)
